I just won this left-facing Apollo, left-facing horseman. Those who follow these coins will know that this is the rarest variety. I only see a couple come around per year, and typically they're in much worse condition. I've been looking for a coin just like this for some time...

This coin will join my right/left and left/right varieties...

Now I only need a nice right/right, which is the most common, and I will have completed a totally pointless collecting endeavor. :cigar:

It's a fine endeavor. Four coins is about the most I can do for a set (short attention span :D)

I remember when you posted your other Macedonians. In that thread you mentioned the left/left as being difficult to find. Naturally I immediately started looking for one. Good thing you saw this one first...

Now go get that righty/righty, soldier!!

    Yes mam!

There are some nice examples on vcoins, but I'll wait to see if I can get one cheap at auction.

A sweet score. I like how the patina highlights the image too.

Thanks guys - I'm not sure the coin is quite that green. I think the seller saturates his images, but that's ok.

Part of the fun of a pointless endeavor is that you can set the point, more or less, that you desire and not worry about what others think. Its not like you were doing something completely crazy like doing a set of the 13 Caesars. :angelic:

Looking at your three, I might look for a right/right with a particularly nice minor device under the horse like the 'point' on Steve's coin or one that has no patina so it shows the brassy metal used for these. Of course the point is that it is your set so it will be interesting to see what you select.

Ok, well, this coin has been sitting on Gitbud-Naumann's shelf for some time, and it was discounted, so here is the final addition to the set. Since the right/right varieties are the most common, you can get higher-grade examples at reasonable prices. The spearhead is indeed an interesting addition - I understand these little devices are control marks?

The right-right coin from G-N arrived today. It's lovely, but the obverse is quite glossy and it's tough to find an angle that doesn't include some glare. G-N's image is better than mine, but c'est la vie. The OP coin is also scheduled to be delivered today, so hopefully I'll get to post my four horsemen soon.

Well, here they are, my four horsemen of Macedon, ordered by scarcity from the most common to the rarest. (With a better pic of the obverse of coin 1.) Now all I need is a distinctive Celtic imitation. :)
