Wow I did not know that. Quote from Answers.com - "The US didn't mint any nickels in 1932 or 1933 due to the Great Depression. If you have an American "nickel" dated 1932 or 1933 it's a fake. A few private companies have advertised replica "coins" with those dates, supposedly so that collectors can "fill in the missing dates". However no reputable coin collector would consider that to be an acceptable practice." - unquote
There are lots of us that spend these coins for fun. Believe it or not, it's just as much fun spending these old coins as it is finding them. I started a thread about it over in the Roll-Searchers forum. Here is the link: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/do-any-of-you-give-back-depositing-loaded-rolls.248834/
I must work on my syntax. I meant swap as in I'd take that Buffalo in a heart beat over a new nickel. edit - and I'm no party pooper!!
It's a bicentennial medal designed by Frank Gasparro that I put through an image filter program to make it look "cool" ... He's my favorite engraver ... and here's an example of the medal. credit - taken from Historical Art Medals website here A member (former?) of this site, Mr. Brooklyn (Ruben) has some more information on this design and it's relationship with the reverse of the Eisenhower dollar on his site here. (Contains information from Rob Ezerman/The Ike Group)
That is really nice. Thanks for sharing and the website. Let's not continue in order not to Hijack this thread!
hi, my name is robert, and i am new to coins, i was thinking about purchasing a 1913 buffalo nickel (with the letter F) , for frasier?, from a local woman, and i am unsure what a fair price on it would be to offer... i spoke to a coin dealer in new hampshire, and said it was probably an $8 - $10 coin, i told him i thought it was in good to fair condition. any advice??? thank you!!!! - robert
Hello Robert, James Earle Fraser was the designer of the buffalo nickel. I really can't help you unless I see the coin you want to purchase. Also very important. If you want to seek any info or share coins here on CoinTalk you should always start you own thread. Going on someone else's post is considered thread hijacking. Or you can send the Original Poster a private message.
I don't know exactly what it is, but if I were smashed and smushed since 19_3 I bet nobody would keep me " BUT I'M KEEPING THIS ONE" LOL... Just call me Crazy, The Crazy Canadian.. I LOVE this. Thank Yawl so much, you inspire me each and every day
