Moneditis, Those are some outstanding pieces for lighting the fire on an 8 reales thread. Let the games begin! I'll throw in a 1762 8 Reales from Mexico City, assayer M.M. And, I will add another 8 reales, also from Mexico City, but minted under the reign of Carlos IIII. Ok, can anyone step up to the plate and shows us some cobs?
OK...Up...Up Ultimately I have been writting about fakes like these http://moneditis.com/2015/03/13/8-reales-de-busto-de-subasta-falsos-iv/ This one from an auction house http://moneditis.com/2015/03/12/8-reales-retirados-subasta-aureo-12-de-marzo-lote-2257/ And many, many more in http://moneditis.com
And, of course, an authentic columnario http://moneditis.com/2015/03/16/8-reales-de-busto-de-subasta-falsos-v/
I've been working on an XF/AU type set of Mexican portrait 8R, but I prefer the patinas on these to be dark. Here are my two so far: 1792Mo FM NGC XF40 (looks like an XF45 to me) 1821Zs AZ/RG NGC XF45
Moneditis, Thanks for the links and photos for fake Spanish colonials. The reason that I joined this forum in the first place was due to the purchase of a cob that turned out to be a counterfeit.
Very poor photo but I am trying to get more information about this coin. I don't know what the punch mark is. I also noted the letter M in Lima is double struck. I wonder if it would have any effect on value.
Great Examples.... My two are already here...and i lost a bid for some cobs...so sorry no photos to share of anything else not already here.... A comment to mcbraun----I had to sell my attributed 1783 Cazador ship-wreck coin and all the 'dealer' kept saying, with a disappointing shake of his head, was that it was too bad it was salt-water damaged. Can you believe it??
