I wasn't even aware banks could still order them I occasionally get some loose ones when a customer cashes them in. My bank does order golden dollars coins for me though.
As a side note, I'm rather upset my local bank can't get in a bag of Seated half dollars for me. Its valid currency, I demand it, so surely they must be able to obtain it at face value for me. Must be a conspiracy at hand.
Well, if these were on the list of coins which could be ordered, then I'd insist. But since they aren't, there's no point in being upset.
There used to be a form that member banks could fill out and submit for coinage orders. That form "used" to be available the Federal Reserve Bank Services site https://www.frbservices.org/files/forms/fedcash_services/pdf/sanfrancisco_quarters_faxsouth.pdf which is where I got the copy I submitted to my bank. But, as you can see, it is no longer there. At any rate, in the coin section, there was a list of coins which could be ordered and Eisenhower Dollars was at the bottom of the list. I'll go to my bank tomorrow and see if I can get a copy of what I gave them and then post it here.
Boy, would I love to have this safe with contents http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=193824
I heard from a friend who has a friend, who's 2nd cousin told her aunt that she overheard 2 ladies at Kmart saying the Government Assay Office was about to do a "GSA" Type sale for all of it's leftover Eisenhower Silver Dollars being held in vaults. The US Mint will have more information shortly, so the rumor goes.Orders will ONLY be taken by mail, and, you have to sign a release form from the Mint saying due to weight of IKE Dollars, you would not sue if the box dropped on your toes.
a little update on this: My last filled order was last fall. I tried again in December and did not get any. I have had a standing order in now for 3 months and have not received any. (My bank person puts the order in for me every week, and none are coming in)
"still one of the ugliest coins made in US" Yeah... We got that. Twice. Beyond that valuable input do you have anything intelligent and/or relevant to the post to contribute?
In the metro Detroit area, the armor car companies that most banks deal with and they can only order what they have in stock. When the casino were still dealing in all coin op slots. you couldn't get the new quarters to save some ones life. And the same with the gold dollars after a while. as they weren't ordering the new issued ones till the on hand stock was gone. Or so said the local bank, 5/3 then they had signs up for a while that they no longer would be getting the new dollar coins. The only ones I have seen are the occasional turn ins, same with the 50 cent pieces. as the can't order them any more or it is more properly they can order them the Armor Car companies don't deliver any. As I just do tokens and not coins, I did check for my parents as they liked both the halves and the ikes.
