It is MD but next time you gave a question like this please post it in the ERROR section. But keep looking you are bound to find something good
What you're seeing is strike doubling. As for the section you posted this in, I would not worry much about it. After recent threads on the matter, it seems most do not seek out specific forums and instead use the new posts/thread options.
Wow! I posted this from my phone and am now on my computer looking at it! How many photos did I post!
Why should he post it in the Error forum? He's looking for doubled dies. Doubled dies are not errors. It doesn't matter that this happened to be machine doubling. Chris
There are a few DDO's for the '66 SMS. I noticed that yours has the doubled profile, too. Check the CPG to compare your specimen against those in the book. Chris
For your 1966 - Go to this page and scroll down to the 1966 Halves, Dr. Wiles has pictures of the different DDOs that are also in the Cherrypickers Guide. http://www.varietyvista.com/Doubled Dies.htm
I never noticed the profile, now that you mention it, it looks slightly like DDO-10. I will have to look at it under a loupe to be sure though. Here is ddo-10 " Strong spread on profile, eye, hair above forehead, ear, and designer's initials, and medium spread on IN GOD with CW rotation on LIBER of LIBERTY."
I checked it with a loupe. I think I just found my first ddo!! Chin looks better in hand than in photo. Neck is doubled, lips have some nice doubling/splitting.
You do know you can go back and edit your own post. You don't have to post another one with a correction like you did.
Same here. Believe it or not, this set was the first thing I ever bought when I started coin collecting, I guess I had one the whole time. Here is another crappy photo (it looks way better in hand)
