NOT that I am accusing you of faking anything, but you do know how easy it is to reset the date, right?
I don't know how on my phone, which is what I used to take the pic. They base their time off of the internet/network, not what I program it to say.
There are programs that edit the EXIF data, but there is a simpler way... Put your phone into Airplane mode, go into settings and change the date & time. Click... "The problem with quotations on the Internet is that you don't know if they are true." -----A. Lincoln, President, USA
I may try doing this with my 44. Looks decent in the image, but it was clearly fooled with in hand. It's really a shame too, it sure is nice other than the unnatural look and it really clashes next to the others in my set.
I'm having a hard time imaging the (artificial) luster, but it was lightly polished and dipped in the past. I don't see any distracting lines from polish so to speak, but the color is very unnatural in hand. The 56 and 44 were shot at the same angle (with my phone since I still need to get a descent camera). You can see that the 56 has nice original luster the way that it should while the 44 is overly bright on the high spots. I don't want to add any wear to the coin since it's a nice AU details, but it could look a little more natural if it weren't so bright. I'll either try it for a day or two, or look for another one that I like better. I just wouldn't ever be satisfied with it the way it is now.
I would think putting it on a windowsill or something outside of the Air-tite would be the best you can do. That *might* allow the accumulation of a bit more surface patina that would dull the color to a nice BN. I don't think the method used by @Agilmore01 would be ideal because you're likely to add wear to the surfaces doing it.
Yep, It WILL add wear. Sloshing it around in a bad with a bunch of copper cents will wear the high spots. I don't recommend it on any coin that you want to preserve the grade.
I was thinking about just carrying it around loose in my pocket. It's not an MS coin anyway and the minute amount of wear that it could add would be better than the look of it now.
Funny you should mention that, the S.M. coin. There is actually a very nice premium put on well worn commemoratives. Read that in Numismatic News last week.
