I found this penny with defects on front and back. This does not look like after mint damage. Could this be caused at the mint and what would it be called. 1421980519532.jpg 1421980846403.jpg

Didn't happen at the mint. It's damage. Could have been caused in any of a million ways.

Clamped in a vise for some reason?

That is what I thought at first but the lamination on the coin is unaffected. If a vise or clamp was used wouldn't it have damaged the lamination?

Cents are not laminated, they are plated. Put pressure on the coin making an impression, you'll push the plating in, too.

To me, that appears to be damage from the "sealing" machine used by the US Mint when assembling US Mint Sets.

I've seen it with Roosevelt Dimes.

I cannot find the source for these images so make of them what you will.

Looks like somewhere around 1970 or 1971.

I found them again. I forgot I have two. They are 1973 D. They came from a roll of 1973 uncirculated pennies. I tried to get some better pictures. The marks are identical to the ones in the picture of the dime above.
