I found this today, by chance, as a page in Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_state_leaders_in_786

I assume there are similar pages for other years of antiquity, maybe for every year A.D., don't know. In any case, this info would take forever for collectors of ancient coins to compile. Here is a portion of the lengthy text:

List of state leaders in 786

This is a list of heads of state, government leaders, and other rulers in the year 786.

    Contents
    Africa

    America
    Asia
    Europe

It seems to go back to 499 BC on an annual basis and the goes into decades.

You do not use leading zeros and the is no need for AD. Each page has a link at the top that goes a year either way and a link to events of the year. Try
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/44_BC

Of course earlier years will include discussion of different calendar systems. This looks like fun but I have to wonder if it is accurate enough to be reliable. I suspect it is pretty good.

A bit confusing having two threads though.

I thought it would be well-suited to "horizontal" collecting, where you pick a year or decade or century and concentrate on everything related, worldwide, instead of say, focusing on 300 years of the Roman Republic, etc. It is certainly easy to check its authenticity, as many of the rulers have their own Wikipedia pages, but to think of all the places and dynasties and rulers - you would never get done.

Pishpash, as you can readily see, above, YOUR comment appeared twice -- it's a glitch in the software, not intentional on my part or your part either.

Don't worry not looking to "blame" perhaps the mods will sort it out :)

I have had that happen. My computer freezes and I impatiently click post reply more than once hoping it will speed up. When it does speed up I find out every time I clicked, "Post Reply" my post had been replied. It looked like I had spammed but it was just a computer glitch.

I usually just report my post when that happens asking the mods to delete my double post.

I removed the duplicates in this thread and deleted the other thread, as it is a real pain to have to merge 2 threads.

Doug , please figure out why all is being doubled from your computer ( mouse , keyboard, slow connection ?) and have patience posting until you solve the problem. Thanks Jim

Jim, it is not MY problem, several others posted multiple identical messages too. Nor does it occur on any other forums I belong to.

Multiple postings are easy to deal with ( 2 clicks), multiple threads take longer to do properly into one. Generally, the problem is with the DNS lookup on your provider's server. I am not upset, just asking that on threads you wait a slight bit. On my browser, a small 3 dot progression starts in the upper corner when it is trying to send the message, but the connection is stalled for some reason, it happens :)
