I have a 1971 S Proof Silver Dollar by PCGS graded PR 69 DCAM and also it looks like Peg Leg. So my question is it Peg Leg ?
San Francisco - Peg legs. 1971 S - High relief Proof hub and die abraded Fading Peg leg population and values ( Rare ) ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 1971 S Low relief Experimental in nature ( StraightPeg leg ) population and values ( Rare ) IDDDO+V-118. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 1971 S - Low relief Peg leg FS-401 population and values ( Scarce )
It looks like it could be but then the "non-Serifed" R for the 1971-S Silver Proof coins represents about 1/4th of the total mintage as it was the "First" obverse design minted in September 1971 (2,180) and December 1971 (1,219,990) and with only that attribute, has very little to no premium associated with it at all. However, a majority of the doubled die obverse and reverse coins are of the PegLeg Design. I say that because the term "PegLeg" is commonly associated with die abrasion but some are by design such as the 1971-S (Proof AND Business Strike), 1972-S (Business Strike and Proof) and the 1976 Type 1 BiCentennial coins.
