Last Saturday i went to the ANA show in Portland, we got there at 9:00 am, what was a packed parking due to a cheerleader competition. My ride was the president of the Boeing coin, he was helping out at the ANA kids table, which i helped out for a couple hours later in the day. he also had a display so we were there till 5:00. The ANA had a kids table and the kids could draw a coin if picked could go in a money shower and keep all the cash they could grab, very fun. they had a treasure hunt, and had a bag of World coins to pick out and find the Country on a large map, which is were i hung out. I was able to meet up with our very own Valha, very young and smart as a whip. he displayed also some bank notes, very well done, i didn't get pics due to the lighting, my bad, we went to lunch and he showed me his ancient coins. after we went and stopped by to see Amanda, she took some pictures and then went to see Charmy she was right across from Amanda, but was running to catch her plane so we didn't get to chat. I spent a lot of time on the floor early saw three Vcoin dealers Moneta, Kenn Hollister very nice. Tom Cederlind very nice and had awesome stuff. the ones i liked the most was Glen Lindwall from Musa, he and his wife were awesome. there were many modern coins dealers mix with ancients so you had to look, most of there's were very over priced.. Here's the only coin i bought, Antoninus Pius..138-161 AD. AE, as Obv. laureate head right. Rev. elephant walking right, COSIIII in exergue 28mm x 12.44g My first elephant.. Claudius fourree' which i was corrected not four ee but four A..you can buy this baby for only $2000 It was a fun trip, meet some great people, just need to have a lot of money when you go.. the only down side it took 5 hours to get home, the freeway was closed for over hour in Portland, which got me home around 10:30 PM.which was a very long day..
If you don't get out of Ancients section , Charmy is the Penny Lady and Amanda is from Alhambra coin. Pish glad you like my elephant,i was going to post it in your thread. Aidan, if you haven't gone, ANA does a summer seminar, a lot of yn's go, if your picked they will pay airfare and room. you could pm Amanda or Valha, they could give you the how to info.
I got a friend who is running the auction for the second week, hopefully I'll get the full scholarship (instead of a partial...) and take the class on Ancient Greek Coinage.
Nice pickup. And your right, you need plenty of money to goto those things. I try to go with $300-$500 when I do bother with Long Beach. I mind as well go with $20 total :/ Sometimes though reasonable prices surface like this past feb. long beach.
Sounds like you enjoyed your time at the show, and came away with an excellent elephant coin too. I have a soft spot for this issue.
Wow, that's a very cool elephant-coin, my West Coast friend ... bravo!! Your coin rocks as well, Z-bro (man, I need to score one of those babies!!) The show sounded like it was a good time ...
