That is the first time ever that I encounter a bronze coin with the fallen horseman on reverse, whereas the obverse shows an Emperor who does not belong to the Constantinian Dynasty. Hope I'm right and gladly awaits your nice replies. Thanks..
Constantius Gallus. A Caesar (junior Emperor) who was appointed and executed by his cousin Constantius II.
Constantius Gallus. They were the last remaining male blood relatives of Constantine the Great and Constantius II. Gallus was fairly evil, and was taken out by Constantius II after being elevated to Caesar by him.
Looks believable to me - perhaps Cyzicus??? These are usually small and scrappy. This would be a nice one if only the mintmark were present.
Bingo! Bruck comes through! On page 55 he lists all the mints for Julian on FH coins. Only Cyzicus splits the obverse IVLI ANVS. I had been looking for a coin made fully identifiable by the Bruck book. This is a textbook case! Wanna trade?
So that's Julian II and struck in Cyzicus. Thanks to all of you. Brother DS.. I wish I could trade but I have no clues. The rules are the rules. Charles
Alot of us trade/sell between eachother around here. It isnt a problem, especially if done privately.
