I was watching a television shopping channel (as I was scanning to see what else was not on) and a show called the Coin Vault came on. Just for grins I watched for a bit. The hostess introduced some guy named Mike Mezack...she called him the preeminent coin collector in the world. He was offering for sale, amongst other garbage, a set of Indian Head cents from 1890 to 1909 for $100. He said "Look at the 1894...this coin is in fine condition and is worth $100 all by itself". I about puked on my own lap! Currently the 1894 in F-12 is about $9. Do you suppose there are people out there who believe this con artist? There must be or he wouldn't continue to be on the air.
I don't know about y'all, but I would never buy any coin from a television ad.

Yeah those shows take advantage of ignorant people who believe everything that's said. Mike Mezack is one of TV's biggest hustler's of all time, nothing but another crook taking money from little old ladies Criminal.gif .

He is using some kind a coin book where he takes all those prices. He only cites what that national advertised coin catalog book says. Guy is a genius.

When I want a good laugh, I always watch him. The fatter guy isn't on there anymore and hasn't been for a few years but he has been on the air selling coins for over 20 years now! Can't believe it really. There are occasionally a few good deals that I've considered purchasing but never have.
I mostly watch the show just to see what the newest stuff looks like, otherwise if there's nothing on T.V...... Mike Mezack it is

No way there were any XF's in there.
He said "fine". Being the world's preeminent collector I'm sure he would know the numismatic definition of "fine".

"national advertised" - means Coin Vault on HSN

    "coin catalog" - his own

You can't call him a liar, but you do have to learn "his definitions".

Well, I like to tune into Barry Chappell's Art and Coin TV just to see what's up. Always an interesting show. I comment on how high they are selling something and my wife tells to quit watching then if I don't agree with them...lol. Last night they had 2015 ASEs for $28.95 each for single buys, $499 for a roll of 20 and him and the head honcho of PandaAmerica, who seems to be a regular on the show now, and who looks like a complete shyster, kept talking about how silver had just gone up $3 so I assume the show had been an earlier recorded version. I got a good laugh out of that one when MCM had a roll for $372 this weekend and you can buy singles much cheaper than $28.95 on Ebay.

Last night they were selling Morgan dollar sets, last one was 1904. Guy said look, this coin is 107 years old! Do they use 4 year old recorded clips?
