It may be but the photo looks a little too blurry for my to tell. It could just be the words blurring in the photo making it look like that. Is there anyway you could take another photo of it, then maybe it will be easier to tell.
Me too! That would give me a good excuse to get it graded and slabbed. The coin itself should be an ms63+ I'll have the pic up around 3-5pm est.
It looks like machine doubling to me, but even if it is a DDR, what makes you think it is worth having graded? Chris
Just to keep it in its current shape. Right now it's just sitting around in a plastic bag. Plus if it grades as high as I think it will, it might be worth it
Looking at just the NGC Census, there are 16,000+ graded, and of that number, there are 12,000+ that exceed MS63 and 7,000+ that exceed MS64. I don't think it would be worth it. You'd be better off putting it in an airtite or a flip. Chris
Let's see a clear closeup of "HALF DOLLAR." Good news is if you strike out on the reverse on these you can always flip it over and try your luck on the other side, lol.
Chris, understand one thing. If he has the DDR, he can put this on the label: "1-R-I-CCW; FS-50-1942-801 (009)." Do you have any idea what investors on eBay go when they see something like that? They go, "Cool! I must have it!"
I know the value that can attach to a coin for some varieties, but this doesn't appear to be true doubling, and it doesn't appear to have the doubling of the FS-801. The value of a 63/64 unattributed coin is about $60 or so. It would cost more than half that for grading, shipping & insurance. It's just not worth it. Chris
If it can be verified that it is an fs801 then it's worth it for me, it its just a reg 1942 plain Jane then I'll just airtight it and call it a day
You'll never stop learning! You can start by saving up for the next edition of the Cherrypickers Guide, Volumes I & II. I don't know when they will be released, so if you can't wait, the latest is the 5th Edition, Vols. I & II. Chris
