Had this coin come in today.

PCGS cert does not show up. Called and the CS rep and they had me send photos for review.

Should I be worried? Counterfeit slab? Possible just a system glitch/problem?

Will be hearing back from PCGS but wanted to get some opinions/thoughts

Fake slab, the grade on the slab is completely off centered and the wrong size/font.

The color and detail of the label gave me a weird feeling instantly.

What do you mean by "had this coin come in...."? Came in to what?

Even though you've already the answer to your question, what is the background? I'd be interested to hear the story of how this went down.

In my local area, the Morgan market is almost non-existent. Started with the CC's and has trickled down to common Morgans.

The counterfeiting situation locally might be totally exaggerated, but the stories of fakes have become a sort of "urban myth". Everyone is reticent.

Did you actually buy this thing? There have been so many threads about fake PCGS slabs, just the other day I posted the image above in another thread. Did you buy any other or just this? Any way you could get your money back?

I own and run a Fine jewelry and Antiques store, a local brought this in to show me. He knows I enjoy coins and has been working on a complete CC Morgan set. He brings in the new ones as they arrive. This one hit me as weird as soon as i heard the purchase price.

He is a Elderly fellow and buys much of his coins from TV and Mail order unfortunately. This coin came from a fairly Large business through the mail. I will not list the name until i feel it may be worthy.

It could have been a honest mistake although when you sell a coin at less than 5% PCGS price guide.....Well that just sounds dirty to me.

I will update this story more when all the facts are on the table. Im not starting a bashing or putting a company's name out there for review without all the information in hand

I would never buy a slabbed coin personally without running the numbers on it. Especially a CC!

Unfortunately he did. Although I'm sure the company will offer a refund. There is something fishy going on and i plan to poke at it a little and see what else pops up.

He is bringing in the others in his set to run the certs. He only buys slabbed examples but has Bought from this company before so who knows.

In my best "fine print" voice

I am not invested/compensated in this no matter how it works out. I only posted to gather opinions about the authenticity of the slab and coin in question at this time.

    Might be of interest:

Please tell your customer to STOP buying from his past sources. If he has minimal PC knowledge, tell him to hang out at CoinTalk and other established forums and since he probably has alot of free time, he will learn alot. Ebay with precautions isn't a bad place to buy from.

    But not late-night TV !!!???

The Chinese are as bad about coins as they are WOW gold. It is getting to the point that you are better than 50/50 for getting a fake unless you are really good @ detecting them.

Wait a second....your customer bought it from a company for 1/20th the fair market value ? If that's the case, they KNEW it was fake and he should never deal with them again.

It really depends how the coin was advertised.

    A genuine graded coin?

    A tribute coin?

Need to see the listing before making a conclusion.

Coin and slab are obvious fake.

Hope you get an official answer from PCGS soon, but imo your customer should contact the seller asap and ask for refund.
