Do you think this is a good logo for the American Numismatic Association?

Here are the results of my poll across the internet on the ANA log:

A total of 136 Nays and 17 Yeas.

In the forums that had actual polls, I only counted the votes. On the forums that did not have polls, I only counted Yeas and Nays not inbetweeners or those that I couldn't figure out (there weren't many).

Here are links to the threads:

You may have to be logged into come of them to see the results of polls (I know you have to on PCGS) but the comments are interesting none the less.

If you would like to email the ANA with your comments on the logo, plenty of addresses can be found here:

    Thanks for participating.

Word is that the ANA has revised the logo after all the complaints.

I saw that they posted a set of new Member Logos:

    http://www.money.org/memberlogos.html

I am not sure, though, if that is the Association logo too or just the one that members use or ?. They called the other one a 'Branding Image" / logo.

Numi News had this on their website before the new member logo was announced on the ANA site:

    I guess time will tell.

Well, if they can alter it to have the rest removed, they'll be able to start over from scratch and it'll be no problem! 8) I for one see little real appeal to this design. It looks like it was a design rendered on a internet graphics program. If I had run this new logo thing for the ANA,it would have been promoted by the ANA as a design contest open to ANA member's.No amaturish art deco rendering of a old U.S.coin. I frankly don't understand the logic in using a Liberty Head design.More recognized? I doubt it! only more controversy. ~ Jim

They should really just get rid of that ugly thing.

I can't imagine how a professional organization like the ANA seriously released this to the public. It doesn't look like it was done by a professional design artist at all, it looks like something very amateurish. Someone, at some point, should have stepped up and said "we can't let the public see this!" Such shoddy work really gives the ANA a black eye, and only a complete retraction of this shoddy design work will repair the damage done.

The whole point of the new logo is so that when people other than coin collectors see the logo - they will know it at least has something to do with coins.

While ANA members and most coin collectors all recognized the old ANA logo - nobody else in the world did. It is the non-collectors the logo is being targeted towards so that the ANA will be more widely recognized.

I fear that the choice of the stylized version of the Peace Dollar was a very poor choice for non collector's to identify. Most non-collector's have never even seen a real "Silver" Dollar. A far better choice could have been made,I'm sure. This logo looks like a simple web graphic and nothing worthy of use as a logo for the ANA. The old one at least had class, which this one totally lacks. JMOHO ~ Jim

I am not sure that non-collectors or even those entering from the State Quarter and other modern routes will recognize a Peace Dollar image as well as they would other images.

I know the ANA was thinking "We were instrumental in the creation of the Peace Dollar so lets use that." but I think if they were going for something recognizeable by non and new collectors, A Buffalo, Morgan, Mercury, Walker/SAE or some design would have been a better choice. If they were going to use a coin design, that is. Just my opinion too, of course.

After reading an article in Numismatist (I think it was Numismatist), I am gettig the feeling that there are going to be two logos. The Association logo will be the Peace Dollar logo without the date and the Member logo willt be the ANA/Star logo with the 1891 date.

I am not positive about this but that is the way it read to me.

You make a good point as to why the image of Liberty found on the Peace dollar may have been chosen. Regardless of that - the whole idea is not to recognize that the logo represents a Peace dollar or any other particular coin. But merely that it represents a coin.

Perhaps they should have gone with a coin then instead of the plastic puffy? It sure doesn't look like the the people are behind this judging from stujoe's poll! There's gotta be a better way! ~ Jim :p

    New ANA logo poor choice

The new logo is not representative of the membership and there are those of us who desire to see the Lamp return - Bring Back the Lamp
