I take every side job I can find and that goes into coins. Some years more, some years less. The last few years have been put into GSA Morgans, pre-33 gold, Walkers and FH Standing Liberty Quarters.
I've funneled the money I've earned from my book back into my hobby. I earned enough from sales of the book to pay for my trip to FUN last month. I was quite proud of that fact.
Smart - I never got married until I was 51. My hair was turning gray, I was getting fatter, and my teeth were falling out - fiqured better find someone that would put up with me before it was too late!! LOL!!
Yeah - my wife always ribs me as saying "better to be fascinating with coins than fascinating with some woman on the internet!!
I started woodworking in a buddy's dads cabinet shop at 14. Worked my way through and paid for college doing wood work. I've got a good job that I've worked at for 25 years but still do the woodworking. I have several antique shops and upholstery shops that I make parts and repairs to furniture for. That's my play money.
I have a little recording studio that basically pays for the coins. I also have a job that pays pretty well. I also do a bunch of trading of other coins.
FANTASTIC!! Wood working is so fun! This is my Oliver wood lathe I pulled out of a Cleveland Heights school!!
Very very nice. The highschool that I went to didn't have a shop class. When I went to college I was in the Civil Engineering building alot. The agricultural engineering department in that building had a full woodworking shop that hardly ever got used. Discovered it by accident once and had to find out who was over that shop. Biggest and best tools and machines that I had ever seen. After some fancy talking (begging), the guy over that department let me use the shop. He stayed around for an hour or two the first time I was there and he said that I was the only one that had ever used some of equipment or even knew how. They let me use it as long as it was spotless before I left at night and man could I make a mess. Walked out of there some mornings with sawdust all over me headed to my first class.
I retired 4 years ago, collect my pension, rent a couple rooms out to international students attending college here, mow lawns in the summer. My 'real' coin money comes from the place I retired from and running ads in the local newspaper to buy and sell coins. They call me back during the winter to cover for hunters and vacationers. It works out just fine. I'll be 60 this year.
I don't have time for side jobs as me career takes up most of my time. I've thought of having investments that work for me where I don't have to do anything, to pay for my hobbies and travel, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I was looking into buying some shipping containers and leasing them, but haven't run the numbers yet.
