I've had an ad on Craigslist for some junk silver for about 3 weeks now. I've gotten a few offers in that time that were all around $170, which is about melt for what I have. In the listing I said I was asking $215 but would entertain reasonable offers. I just got an email this morning from someone saying they'd offer $250 cash. They left their name and number. This seems like one of those too good to be true situations. Is this offer worth pursuing or would it be better to ignore it and not risk anything incase it's some sort of scam?
They could also be trying to attempt setting you up and robbing you which has happened with craigslist before I'd be very cautious.
Most, if not all, police stations will provide a safe place for a meeting. Be sure to call first to set it up. Tell the potential buyer to email a copy of their drivers license, then contact police with that info before setting up a meeting at the police station.
I'd be very leery. It doesn't matter where you set up the meeting. The "buyer" might stand you up, but watch when you leave and follow you home. Pass!!! Chris
Of course not, but the nature of the reply would inevitably be revealing. It seems to be such a trivial amount to build a major plot around.
Yeah, you're right! What crook in his right mind would think that he has other more valuable coins lying around. Chris
Yeah, you're right! What crook in his right mind would think that he has other more valuable coins lying around. What crook in his right mind would offer more than the asking price, thereby alerting the seller? You are postulating a criminal both deviously cunning and curiously stupid. I think this must mean there are more than one criminal, possibly a gang of seriously petty criminals. OP, I suggest you stay indoors for a week or two. The deviously cunning member will have found your address from a reverse number look-up, possibly using their corrupt contacts in the phone company, while the stupid member or members will be laying in wait outside with heavy clubs. Or there could be a simple explanation, and I'd be looking for this first before running scared of shadows.
