Quiz: What kind of PMD is this?

I have posted two images of the edge and rim of a coin. You can see that the edge and rime do not look the same as the normal edge and rim at each side of the image.

Does this "problem" affect the coin's grade, value, and what is it?

Request to all members. Please study the image and please do not post your answer until tomorrow. That way, everyone on CT (beginners to expert) who wants to post, will have time enough to come to their answer independently. I know how hard it is to resist posting but we did pretty good the last time. We'll discuss all the replies tomorrow. Good Luck. I think this quiz is of medium difficulty for the average collector.

NOTE: I have two folks :troll: on "ignore" for their unacceptable remarks in the past. If they post before tomorrow and ruin the quiz for everyone else, please report their bad behavior. Otherwise, I'm thinking a moderator can close a thread and open it up to comments later. I may look into that if this does not go as I hope.

One of the easiest ways to hide a post is to change the font color to white. The only way to read the post is to quote it and the white text then contrasts with the quote box. It has to be easier than forcing people to hold their replies.

PS: I think it is prong damage from a jewelry bezel.

Whatever you do, don't reply to this post!

@Insider I would have thought you might 'instruct' your viewing audience to just read your opening post without reading any subsequent responses before replying with their own educated or uneducated responses. This way everyone, beginner thru expert can 'safely' reply without being castigated publicly.

I am incredibly far from an error or variety expert. Therefore I feel comfortable postulating my guess as a beginner.

Spoiler Alert: if you do not want to see my uneducated guess to the OP's quiz close your eyes and scroll past the remainder of this post.

I believe the first picture is showing a rim cud.

The second picture has this beginner a bit more flummoxed. I think it has something to do with the upsetting part of the minting process.

I do not believe that this has anything to do with the striking process.

I feel that many that read this thread will never make their way back to it to give an answer/guess. It's easy to loose interest and track of a single thread. With the quantity of threads here, I loose track of threads all the time unless I bookmark them.

That is their problem. They can post a "dot" and it will be in their content.

I am a student of human nature. Many who read simple instructions don't understand them. Many of those who understand the don't follow them for whatever the reason. Telling someone not to look at something will guarantee that 99.9% of them will! I cannot turn them into a pillar of salt but after a few pillars I think my request might be followed.

The excellent way members cooperated for this quiz will guarantee there will be more. I'll give the answer after the experts here describe what they are seeing. This one is not easy.

This is the image that gives the best answer. How does this problem affect the grad and value? What do you think caused it?
