Another interesting coin. "Genuine doubled dies are characterized by a splitting of the serifs on letters with serifs, or a “notching” of the corners of the letters which are doubled. This splitting of the serifs or notching of the letter corners will not be found on coins with mechanical doubling". What are your thoughts?
I think it's MD. The lower numbers/letters are flat or shelf like, making it looks like they jiggled while being struck. A true doubled die is actually from the die being doubled and the strike wouldn't leave either sets of numbers/letters flat.
Truly the date is shelf-like but the split in the "S" of Trust had me. I know its not a "true" doubled die.
Thanks for the advice. I'm not new to collecting die variety coins, I found this in circulation when I was 8. It's been in my collection for 46 years. Just thought I'd share it.
Keep in mind that it is always possible to have a true doubled die and machine doubling on the same coin. Chris
