My 12/13 order just went from back order to processing and my card got dinged.

What is special about the one dollar bill in this set, from any other dollar bill?

They haven't been issued into circulation through a Federal Reserve bank to a retail bank and on to a customer, much the way the coins haven't been circulated.

There is nothing special about this one dollar bill

Or the dollar coin for that matter. It's all a matter of perspective floating it's status and value.

I disagree. If you got one of these dollars in circulation, you would not know it came from this set. If you got one of the coins, it is unique to this set, so you would know it came from it.

Meh... Your logic assumes one is an informed collector of modern NIFC US coins. How often do you (an infromed collector) find NIFC coins in circulation? Most people wouldn't know the difference because most are not collectors and most are not aware that such sets even exist. For most people, it's a shiny new coin. With the vast amount of varieties in design from year to year now common place, from presidents to Native American designs, the surface treatment alone isn't going to be a clue to non-collectors. A golden dollar that hardly circulates in the first place is not even common enough across the US for the population to identify such differences. A dollar coin and a paper dollar are all the same, something to spend and nothing much special. Or as I said a matter of perspective, hence who you are-- a collector who knows and cares, or a non-collector who doesn't and just spends them for what they are.

What's your point??? That could be applied to most/many valuable coins out there - of course only a knowledgeable collector will appreciate what it is.

Do I detect sour grapes? Don't give up yet, you'll get yours.

You know what the best part of this eu dollar is? We’ll make a hell of a rate of return because the mint, who normally screws us, screwed up. If they rolled it out as they do other unique coins/sets, they would have sold north of 200k and we wouldn’t see near the appreciation we will. Maybe the mint should disclose the lost revenue from 150k sets in the notes to their financial statements.

My point is clear. I explained it, devoid of sourness. I don't care if I get my order or not. I'm more curious about the incredibly inefficient delays at the Mint fulfillment operations in fulfilling these simple orders at this point.

There is absolutely nothing special about these coins. There shouldn't be to "collectors" anymore than they are unimportant and ordinary to the general non-collecting public. These, like most others being bought direct from the Mint, are manufactured to be collectibles, fed to consumers who fancy themselves collectors but who have lost their sense of what makes a coin a rarity or special. These things are products. They are not special as a result of normal production the way a key date rarity from intentional business strikes has come to achieve its status and standing, and command of value.

If I get my sets, I will sell them to these same misguided consumer-collectors and pool any profits earned towards things of better value in advancing and building a better collection of my own.

I doubt they screwed up as much as just don't care one way or the other which way up or down the planchetes turn out during production. And if they do care to string you along, how easily it would be to exploit those prone to seek out and overplay the importance of these miniscule differences in attempting to assert more value that they are worth.

Your post reminded me to look back on my order from 12/12. I haven't checked on it since early January. (10th?) What do you know, it says processing as well. I ordered it as a Christmas gift for a young cousin of mine. He is 8 years old. With all his other gifts to distract him, he probably has forgotten about this one. At Christmas, I did offer to settle up with a different coin for him, but in his mind; two of something (A bill and a coin) was better than one of something. I guess he picked properly after all.

You might be SOL Krisp, anyone else anywhere hearing of any 12/14 orders being processed?

I dunno, Krispy. They marked my Proof "US Marshals" coin shipped last night. On Sunday. But hang in there...I'm sure you are not forgotten!

When I called back in January, I was told unless I got a cancellation notice, you were still on the list to get a set. I was told to wait it out. I thought my chances were close to nothing. It appears this person was giving out good information. So unless that notice comes, you are in the hunt.

Hey, with the baseball gold dollars (non-proof) it took them almost 6 months to cancel my order....

Totally inexcuseable, even more so as it is unexplained as to why it should take that long and further because it keeps going on with the new fulfillment service.

    12/14 SBO
