    Another interesting coin.

"Genuine doubled dies are characterized by a splitting of the serifs on letters with serifs, or a “notching” of the corners of the letters which are doubled. This splitting of the serifs or notching of the letter corners will not be found on coins with mechanical doubling". 1925 1-1.jpg 1925 6.jpg 1925 11.jpg 1925 14.jpg 1925 date.jpg

    What are your thoughts?

I think it's MD. The lower numbers/letters are flat or shelf like, making it looks like they jiggled while being struck. A true doubled die is actually from the die being doubled and the strike wouldn't leave either sets of numbers/letters flat.

Truly the date is shelf-like but the split in the "S" of Trust had me. I know its not a "true" doubled die.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not new to collecting die variety coins, I found this in circulation when I was 8. It's been in my collection for 46 years. Just thought I'd share it.

If I found that in circulation, I would keep it too. :)

My eyes were better then, I didn't need a 20x loupe to see it like I do today! o_O

Keep in mind that it is always possible to have a true doubled die and machine doubling on the same coin.

Do you have any reference to back that statement up?

Yes, common sense and general knowledge of the minting process.
