Are there two varieties of lettering on the '81 Lincoln's? I ask because I've come across 2 with block lettering, and I can't find a mention of that anywhere Obverse.jpg Obverse.jpg . I'll just show the obverse of one and the obverse of one with thin lettering. I just noticed the one with thin lettering has a clash behind Abe's head. Thanks: Lou

    Quick answer,
The US Mint did not use 2 different lettering varieties/fonts.
    So the answer is no..

It's either a Die Deterioration issue, fresh die vs overused die, or the letters were smooshed in circulation.

I'm not seeing a clash.. It would have to be a clash from the Reverse Die. Can you tell us what you think the clash is?

Use this Memorial Cent overlay to explain the clash you are seeing..

Smooshed, ok, I can get behind smooshing.

Thanks for the overlay, it's really great. The clash I see is two or three columns left of Abe's neck - above the ty in Liberty. Thanks: Lou
