Just got these cool 1864l indians that were altered at some point. One is a snow-1 variety I believe. It's a shame because they must have been really beautiful coins.
I have no idea. I have made coin rings before, and niether of these look like the process I use. I bought them online cheap on really poor pictures with the far out hope that they were a die cap and wrong planchet. Now that they came in I'm thinking they were attempts to replicate? No idea, cool pieces though
We're there medals made from real coins like this? I'm pretty positive it was a real coin filed or ground down to slightly smaller than a dime. I think it was old damage though, because the color is pretty good and even from the surfaces to the edge
The IH was probably filed to the the size of a dime to fool vending machines or pay phones. I used to do that with a grinding wheel when I was a kid. Please don't ask how long ago that was.
They are not really worth anything since they are damaged. Just chalk them up to cool coins that have more history and less value.
