Dansco 7070 Twenty Cent Question

So I have been working on my dansco type set. The majority of the coins in it are mint state or very nice AU's with eye appeal other than my two early large cents which are nice coins with great surfaces and eye appeal, IMO, and my 1865 seated dollar in XF. I've been looking at the 1875 S twenty cent in au, which is going to cost $400-$500 bucks. I was just in my LCS and they just took in a nice low grade, Fine, 1875 CC twenty cent coin for the same money as the 75 S in au. The coin looks great for the grade that it is, its one that you don;t see every day, but my worry is that it might look odd with all of the other higher grade coins. What's your thoughts. I'm thinking about taking the dansco in and looking at it.

Do not settle for anything less than UNC for any coin in the Dansco.

Place a similar sized/grade coin in the spot and ask your self again, how would this look.

go for the CC, the S is far too common

It won't match the set, but the CC is the more scarce coin of the two.

OR try to cherry one of those nice S over S varieties for not much more money. I just passed on a very nice AU-55 S/S $.20 for about $375 last month. Very pleasing and original looking surfaces too.

I'd go for the 75-cc and if you didn't like it you could easily trade for a 75-s in high grade. Me I have a couple 75-s and a 75 in xf 40 cac but my type set 20 cent an au -58 cac 1876. That's a tough coin!

    Yup. eBay.

Let me see if I can find it in my watched history.

I apologize. I misremembered. It was a regular S variety and was only an AU-53 for $340 OBO.

I did think it was a good coin at a good price.

Here's the item number since I'm on my phone.

It was the very last item in my watched list.

I think Tommy's idea is best. Stick a quarter with similar grade over the spot and see if it sticks out. Who cares about what's more scarce or anything. My Type Set is XF and my pocketbook is leaving a lot of holes in it. Get what you like and what looks good in your set.

thanks for the responses. I might take my book there and look at it. If I do pull the trigger it shouldn't be a hard one to flip on an upgrade.

A 75-cc not nearly as rare as the philly 75 or a 76 but always commands a good premium due to the cc mintmark. Any early Carson city coins with good original skin an easy sell to a hungry audience

I just wish they had more spaces for the 3 cent piece. I'm tempted to buy a 7070, but I wouldn't be able to use the ones I have in it.
