How much would you pay for this sample slab?

Thanks for bidding. I was quite surprised it sold for that much. Not a bad return for three dollars! I hate when people always say not to get coins from flea markets. If you know what you're doing, there's no risk and sometimes great gains

Cost me nothing - but a little pride - to be the underbidder AGAIN :)

The advice not to buy from flea markets isn't intended as blanket advice; it's directed to and solid for those who don't know what they're doing. Those who do need simply to ignore it.

    Congrats on the fine return.

Very true. I think some of us do quite well. There's also a stigma that is conveyed by some authors that believe these places should be avoided by all. It does take some effort to get out there, but it's a labor of love for sure.

So should the advice be, "if you cannot grade or determine the value of a coin, don't go shopping for them at flea markets/garage sales" or something along those lines?:D

FWIW as another data point, the next one up for auction sold back in the 60s ($68)

So, the value of asking the question here is approximately $22...
