Hello Dr Tammay Saha, To help answer your question this section is any countries that were under the British Empire. That is why you will notice several pictures of coins from different counties. Example, I just posted coins from India and New Zealand. I hope I helped answered your question. Steve
Hello everybody, I have just joined today and really novice in this field of hobby. I was searching for such a place to discuss my problem and really badly seeking help of you people. Recently i purchased one KGV 1 rupee coin 1911 & 1 rupee coin of Victoria Empress 1887. The major problem is two of my known coin seller said the 1911 KGV coin is a fake one, particularly after seeing the peripheral design of the obverse. I have taken weight of it and one such same from year 1917. Weight of the 1911 is 11.635gm & 1917 is 11. 535gms. I am here attaching the snap of 1911 coin. Can you please tell me is it is fake or enlighten me what other factors i have to check to be confirmed or where i can get the definite opinion? Moreover one last question is i got one Victoria empress 1887 Bombay mint one rupee with "B" incused & that is reverse. is it rare or common. seeking help from you badly so please post your opinion. with regards to all dr tanmay saha
Ones I posted are what Australia has to offer this year Steve. Canada has about the same ones I think just different reptiles.
1911 is a key date, make sure it's the right diameter because the elephant on the obverse resembles a pig it was withdrawn and redesigned.
Well I don't know definitively if it's clipped or not. This is why it's best to stay in one area and specialize. I did buy the coin from a reputable dealer: Karl Stephens. Also I have an Ohaus scientific balance so I can weigh the coin very accurately and record what it's weight is. Problem is that I'm in Brazil (Sao Paulo) and the coin of course can't be kept in Brazil so it's in the US. However when I return and get my balance out of storage I'll weigh it. Note that I didn't notice anything unusual about the reeded edge, but then I'm not a guinea specialist. Also I looked up guineas on-line and the 1st hit was this link at Victoria Museum. 1798 Guinea from the Victoria Museum http://museumvictoria.com.au/collections/items/77713/coin-1-guinea-george-iii-great-britain-1798 This one looks even worse than mine for lettering near the edge! Maybe they're both shaved? I'll try to weigh it when I get back to the US. Of course if it was a gold plated Platinum counterfeit, Pt was cheaper than gold in the 1800's and of course it's heavier, which was subsequently clipped then it could still be the correct weight!
I picked this up over Christmas last year It maybe be already posted. .but the only full Rupee I own.
Nice Rupee Jello, I had a very nice British India collection back in the late 80s, unfortunatly had to sell it to cover family obligations.
