I'm absolutely new when it comes to coins and I found this 1993 D penne with an extra one in the date. there's also some extra metal blobs on it too. has anyone ever seen one of these. and I was wondering if they're very common.any information would be greatly appreciated.thanks so much and have a blessed day.

Now THAT is a strange looking find. If possible, take a picture with the phone hanging over the edge of something, even a stack of books. Put alot of light on the coin and do not use the flash. And welcome to the site!

Well, what it is not is a doubled die, and is most likely some sort of plating bubble/issue.

Looks like a linear plating bubble that just so happens to look like a "1".

That's a possibility. If that's the case it really isn't worth much of anything.

Another possiblity is it is a dropped letter error (retained?).... is this 'extra 1' raised or level with the coin or incuse?

hey I'm very new at this so I have no idea what those words mean, is sticking up just like the other1 does. another bubbles you're talking about but the1; doesn't have the same air filled puffy looking Quality. it looks like the other one just one. but then again I'm far from an expert.

If it is raised, it is unlikely IMO to be a dropped letter error, so I will go with possibly a bubble.

Take a toothpick and press on it. It may deflate.

It's up to you on this one. I'm inclined to believe it's a plating issue and that you're looking at a linear bubble. It still looks pretty cool. If you like it, keep it as it is. If you want to see if it's got any increased value, then do as furryfrog there suggested and "poke it". If it deflates, then it's just bubbling and won't get you any premium. If it doesn't deflate... then who knows?

that makes sense if it quacks like a duck. okay so I did not have any toothpicks so I use my fingernails and first I pressed on the extra one and it was just hard then I pressed on the one in the date. I don't know how it is supposed to feel but they feel the same. It didn't make an indention

Could be a die crack too but I'm thinking a plating bubble. It looks like it is from the future, 11993.

Like I said I just started collecting coins. my brother actually got me in to it a few months ago. He's always loved them. He had to be placed on hospice a few months ago and I brought him to live with me. He was going insane laying in the bed so I started buying everything I could find for him to search for error coins. It wasn't long before he couldn't see well enough to look anymore so I would do it with him. We had the most fun as we spent countless hours Looking for errors and now of course I'm hooked.
If someone could tell me if these are man made errors I sure would appreciate it. I think they are man made my brother doesn't.
