It's off to see the fine people at PCGS. I just want to see if anyone thinks that this could come back MS/AU?
Well, it won't come back as an 84-S. That much I can guarantee. My gut's telling me AU details, cleaned.
1884-s is a KEY conditional rarity in high AU and above .... I wish I were seeing one here. That being said, an 1895-s ain't bad either. Grade? no clue, need better pics.
I would wager that it will come back ms-60 to ms-61 but as others have noted it seems to have been cleaned id say possibly dipped from the slightly dull luster it has great details though. Hope it comes back in your favor!
No differentiation between the devices and the fields. It might just be the angle and lighting, but typically those surfaces look different. From the picture you posted, both the fields and device skin looks to have been disturbed in the same manner. In my experience, this is due to a coin being polished. I'm not sure how to put my thoughts into words.
It is cleaned, and has been altered. Definitely not an 1884s. DO NOT buy difficult date (conditional rarity) coins that are not slabbed unless you know the series like the back of your hand. I have said that many times. Morgans are often cleaned, and key dates are doctored.
