#1: 10. 5 grain silver bars for $13, when I first started, was like 50 cents worth of silver, they were so small I lost all but one, for that price I could have bought a nice half dollar, even a cull morgan #2: Again, when I first started, a Kennedy half dollar for $4 #3: I ALMOST bought this but I lost for some reason. A roll of Kennedy halves, $17 on Ebay, I lost lol. I have an endless supply of boxes now from my bank for coin roll hunting, they order 6 a week for me at face.
Posting a VF Shield Nickel on e-bay for a start price of .99. Sold to a dealer for .99. Have'nt posted anything since. I guess I should have made it a BIN sale.
I went to a random bank asking for rolls of half dollars. The teller said "they dont, but they have a canvas bag of those large dollar coins". I said no thanks and left. It didn"t occur to me that there could be silver ones in there or the possibility they were morgans. It would of been fun to at least take a look.
Back in 2011 or 12 when silver was way high I bought a 1/2 oz year of the dragon coin for $40 and the first three 1 oz coins in the Canadian wildlife series for $150.
Getting scared of buying a very nice pcgs graded 1934 S peace dollar in ms 63 that could easily be in a 64 holder for $2600 a couple of years ago. I had the money just got cold feet. Now I struggle finding a decent one for under $4 K
A family member sold a one ounce gold coin for WAY below spot a few years ago (gold was around $1000). At first the dealer said "It says $50 on it so that is what it is worth" I think that my family member only got around $100 or $200 but I do not remember the exact amount but I'm sure it was LOW. To this day I'm disgusted with that sleazy dude in the jewelry store, taking advantage of people who do not know any better.
Same here except for me it is not getting every Carson City Morgan dollar the banks had, heck, even normal Morgan dollars would be great, with any silver certificate I could get my hands back in the 50's and 60's, it would have worked except I was not even alive back then
Traded a chain cent for a proof set. Not sure that it was a bad trade necessarily, but I sure do miss that chain cent.
I'm sorry to hear this. Is there a secret club on CT for this? edit - the phrase "creative accounting" comes to mind
I feel a lot better now that I realize I'm not the only one that messed up by selling or not buying when I should.
It sounds like they were all Morgans! Ike dollars come in a clear plastic bag. Old bags of Morgans come in canvas. I would have took them for sure. Here is an Ike dollar bag: Morgan Dollar bag:
Another one: Not buying the very early 1910-1920 BU toned and wood grained wheat cents at the last coin show I was at for only $5 each. @Mainebill are you sure you do not mean $1100??
