I found it difficult to assert the names of the Emperors on these 2 Roman coins. The first is definitely raw and sandy. The second shows clearly at hand the letters R A N T on the obverse starting from up in the middle clockwise. Of course I'm just asking you to guess? Thank you.. Charles
I agree that coin #1 is Valentinian I. I would never wish to disagree with Chris, (I haven't got his knowledge), but (for coin #2) have you considered Elagabalus BMC 430/433/434/435/438 Antioch mint Syria (on Wildwinds)? Not the same but similar?
It's Valentinian I AE3 Emperor dragging captive while holding standard. For more http://www.tesorillo.com/aes/042/042i.htm
Sorry, thought you were someone from another forum. One of his favorite emperors is Mag Max and is your exact age (saw it on your profile).
Thanks a lot to all of you. The second coin is more likely to be of Caracalla, the Emperor with many faces and names. Antioch ad Orontem- BMC 354 var(bust type). Mac Alee 696. But my coin weighs 6.32 g. instead of 5 g. as listed there. It might be a different denomination.
