Here is a pic of a coin I found. Is this a struck through wire error??? If so, what would the value be for this type of error.

    Thanks! struck though maybe.JPG

Looks like it. At least struck through something...
I wouldn't imagine it would fetch more than a couple bucks since it is fairly small.

I'm in the no column , looks to be PMD reason being the area struck there's different deepness in the scratch or tooled area. Struck through a wire the area would be even and shaped like a wire not gagged looking. Sorry to say looks like an old Dremel tool experiment.

I am not convinced it is from a wire, but to my eyes on this small phone screen, it certainly appears to be some sort of defect from the time of minting as opposed to later damage.

Yeah - I say a kid with a die grinder - the jagged shape is the give-away - a wire srike through would be a straight line And where the hell do you get copper half dollars at???

It looks to me like it was struck through a thick piece of cord. Ordinarily, you wouldn't see evidence of a strikethrough in the letters unless it was fairly thick. The uneven texture in the recess and along the edges of the anomaly tend to rule out a smooth, round piece of wire. The photo I've posted shows a 2006 Kennedy struck through cord or (insulated?) wire.

PS. I didn't know they made a Brown Kennedy. Is this the Ike's baby brother?:woot:

My brown Kennedy is simply a photo-fail.... light and all...

Sometimes I do good with photos, sometimes not. :(

Could be the pooping eagle variety. Any bird that has to hold it's thighs that far apart would at one point let some go. But seriously now.. it could be a struck-thru of some kind of foreign object. I collect these types of errors and looks similar to some I have.

Pooping Eagle? How inglorious and artistically incorrect!

I was thinking of the Eagle Kite.

My apologies if you were offended. That was not my intention at all. This is why I chose the word poop instead of c##p or another nastier word. I'm the kind of guy that picks up coins from the street, clean them up then put them back into circulation!

Not offended by the word or action. Just not a good name for a coin.

I agree it is unlikely from a wire, but does originate from the time of minting. The idea of a kid with a dremel grinder will not wash. No abrasive marks or cutting marks within the crevis.

I don't think it is PMD, it does look to me like a strikethrough, but I don't believe it is wire.
