(Note: not my coin... not yet, at least) It is TPG'ed at an MS65... would you agree? What's going on with the denticles at 7:00 on the obverse? Are those die cracks on the reverse at 12:00, 2:30, and 5:00? What is that at 6:00 on the reverse? Lastly, the top-left inside of the last digit in the Roman numeral... what is it? Thanks.
You don't have to be a 3-cent expert to answer your questions: 1. I see no evidence of a cud anywhere on this coin. The coin is quite attractive, I might add. 2. The pictures don't show what's going on at k7 on the obverse well. Can you post a close-up? 3. There appear to be die cracks at k12 and k5, but I think what you are seeing at k2 is a die clash. 4. At k6 on the reverse, there appears to be discoloration due to a spot (toning, or something like that) 5. Inside the Roman Numeral, you see further evidence of clashing. Clashing is extremely common on these coins.
I would buy this coin as a three cent collector. Nice color a few spots . The clash on the rev is the full cameo of the obv. I have a 65 like that makes for a interesting coin. As to the TPG grade of MS 64, yes but would not grade higher IMHO . If it's ngc or pcgs I would pull the trigger . Coin shows of natural surfaces as you can see cartwheel effect. Some sign of wear on the first two l l l on rev. No cuds on this coin.
They are asking $675. Greysheet is $500. A quick look at completed auctions at Heritage tell me that comparable coins are going for $400-$500. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something on this coin, or if it is just overpriced.
I wouldn't go 675 for it, but I agree with the grade and the comments of @physics-fan3.14 above. Nice coin, hope you can get it at a reasonable price.
Don't think you're missing anything , it's to me a $425-450 coin. Very nice coin but to me no wow factor for the asking price
Unfortunately, I do not have any other pictures of the coin. Do you think that #4 hurts the coin at all? @Paddy54, it was graded MS65 by PCGS. Thank you both for the insights.
Nice coin, looks like a weak strike... toning is cool, that's probably why there's such a high premium.
@micbraun: true, true. I guess that's it. From the description: "Beautiful pastel toned gem with shades of gold, lime green, indigo and violet."
I see what you are seeing, but not a cud. Looks more like a chip and the denticle right next to it at left looks like it took a hit.
I think it's wonderful looking, but is it worth the premium? Only you can decide. How common are these and are you likely too see a similar coin in the next 12 months? If not, maybe you do want to pay the premium.
The occurrence of like-graded coins in Heritage auctions over the past year will give you a pretty good indication of how likely you are to see them again this year. I'm a little confused, though. You said MS65, which according to Heritage archives, sold for between $616 and $822 three times during 2014. Compare with the ones on Heritage and see if it feels like a good deal to you. If those three sales are indicative of the market for these, I don't know where you'll be able to buy one for Graysheet bid. The obverse denticles at K7 are in at least the working hub, if not the master die. All of the coins I looked at had this, and they were from different die pairs.
It looks to me like there may be a rim cud on the rev from 12:00 to 12:30. There are at least three cracks on the rev but I don't see one at 5:00. At 6:00 on the rev is a stain. Not sure what is going on in the denticals on the obv at 7:00. Need better image. And as mentioned earlier what you see at the top left of the last I is part of a die clash.
Lot of cracks and clashed died. Looks to be a bit of retained material at 6:00 on the obverse a small cud perhaps. A pretty coin but in my opinion overpriced. Is it a 64 or 65. Looks like a 64 to me
Knowing the seller and their pictures the color will be nickel in color in hand, their pics seem to have a green hue to them. If your seriously interested in it call and talk to Mike Printz , he will treat you good and should give you a better price
What's going on with the denticles at 7:00 on the obverse? not a cud, but possible tiny die chips. Are those die cracks on the reverse at 12:00, 2:30, and 5:00? yes What is that at 6:00 on the reverse? stain from a dip, not completely rinsed off Lastly, the top-left inside of the last digit in the Roman numeral... what is it? die clash
@Treashunt, do you think that stain at 6 o'clock should have prevented it from being graded? Anyone else?
