Hi, I just received this 1938 s penny for my collection and the mint mark looks like mint mark S has been stamped over with another S mark. I have a 10x magnify and it looks different. I sent pictures. Does anyone else see what I am talking about? Any ideas? Thanks, Steve
It's possible, but I'd need a better close-up. The CPG lists two RPM's, but I think we can rule them out. One is due north and the other is an S/S/S. Chris
It is not a solid looking s Mark that I can see especially around the bottom half. I appreciate all of your help even if it turns out a normal cent. Steve.
Yes - and the S/S/S is really a jumbled mess - easy to distinguish. 1938 S/S/S rpm 2 Fivaz Stanton Numbers: Old FS-1-016.5 New FS-01-1938S-502 Breen: Not Listed Coneca: RPM 2 Wexler: WRPM-002Coppercoins: 1938S - 1MM - 002 The 1938 S/S/S rpm 2 is great example of a triple punched mintmark. A pile of S mintmarks can been seen on this coin. Both secondary mintmarks can be seen west of the original. This variety is listed in CONECA's top 100 RPM's. The images to the left are of three different examples.
I have 1938 s over s two of them are blue one is a Brite Orange Lincoln and a bright copper background what do you think they're worth I looked at them my eyes are not that good anymore I bought them in the 70s I can't find any surface markings small dents scratches nothing but say I miss them and maybe there's something light somewhere hope you can help me I'm going through my collection see what I have thank you
