When I saw this coin at the Dupo Coin Club show in Collinsville, IL today, I was a fan. When I heard the price ($15), I said, "Yes, please." Dealer asked me what the coin's retail was...which, of course, I have no idea, but I told him I'd look it up. Even after I told him what the Numismedia FMV was, he still gave it to me for the original quoted price because he "didn't have much in it." Couldn't get my $15 out of my pocket quickly enough... Can't decide if this is my favorite pickup of the day or if THIS is... 1940 D Jefferson Nickel NGC MS66 6FS
While I like the price on that Jefferson, it pains me to say that I like the Walker as a better pickup. It isn't that I don't like your new Jeff, it is just that I have really really really high standards when it comes to the 1940-D. I say flip that sucker on E-Bay for a nice $30 profit and look for a 40-D with a great overall strike in addition to full steps.
Let me get this straight. He is asking $15, but asks you what the retail is supposed to be. You should buy a lot more from that dealer! Chris
You're absolutely right. No store, though...just another guy like me. Made the huge mistake of being excited about the coins I bought and didn't get his card/contact info.
I say I agree with you. It has toning, but not spectacular toning. The die is really worn. But I couldn't pass it up at that price (like you say, will be able to flip it and make a bit of money.) It will do nicely as a placeholder until I find another one (ha ha, just thinking, "I probably have 2 or 3 nicer ones already...") Agreed. We have similar standards for our Jeffs.
