News from a local bank today (I apologize if this is old news; I just heard about it).

I went into a different branch of a national bank today, told them I was a collector and had an account, and asked if they had any rolled coins, of any denomination, that had been brought in by customers.

The lady in charge of the vault (actually very nice) told me the bank headquarters had recently sent a notice out to all branches to not save any coins for any customers. She said if there is a perceived extra value to the coins…and many of the bank staff know if there might be, they cannot be saved for an individual. There was a lawsuit in Washington state regarding this issue. One roll hunter found out a local branch was saving rolls for another guy. The one who didn’t get the coins sued the bank! The teller was fired.

So, to prevent further agitation and litigation, the bank said “No more” in all of their branches.

In conclusion, they will still give you rolls, but your request for CWR may not be granted.

    Be nice.

I am in Washington state and haven't heard of this. I have never had issues with getting rolls and the occasional box of coins. However, I don't patronize all the national banks. Maybe just lucky...

The vault lady said they would give you rolls but you could not designate you wanted CWR's.
I believe she was following the corporate policy to the letter and was not going to be swayed.
It's okay by me, I rarely visit Vashon Island, anyway.

I am new to CRH, so this was my first box ever.
I asked my CU for halves, and they don't order them. I would have to get lucky and get some CWRs that may have just come in by chance, or maybe have them hold them for me. The teller did mention that I had some competition though. :) So I got a box of cents while I was there.

    box of cents:
    13 Wheats - 1940(x2), 41(x2), 44, 45-d, 46, 51(x2), 56d(x2), 57, 57d
    17 Canada - 1962, 63, 69, 81(x3), 86, 87, 88(x4), 89, 91, 98, 99, 2006
    595 coppers (23.8%)
    1970-s

No errors that I could see.

Decided to keep going to see how long this hot streak would last. And now I know.

    $50 CWR halves: skunk

Clearly a collector's returns - some rolls were solid 1971. Did find a few Bicentennials that could be sold for a small premium online.

I found a 2010 Yosemite California (P) quarter with all white rim. It's something you'd see in a normal silver quarter but it doesn't sound like it's silver. There's no writing on the rim. Is this silver or is this a fancy proof set quarter?

I'll wait for the experts to weigh in, but I've found coins before with little to no copper color on the rim but didn't "sound" like silver. I decided that that coin just "got lucky" and no copper showed on the rim?

It's most likely plated. Your best bet would be to weigh it.
