Found this partial $1 Hawaii overprint note in my Father-in-law's wallet that my wife has had stored away since his passing. He served in the Marines and Army during WW2. As a Marine Night Fighter, he was in the Pacific theater and probably picked up this up during his service. I've just started looking up info about these and will follow up with anything interesting I find about them. Please share your knowledge and any examples that you may have!
Could it have been stored with other papers? I don't believe it's pareidolia when I see remnants of hand written letters on the face of the bill just west of the Hawaii overprint and on the back in the lower margin.
ZoidMeister, posted: "Here is a complete one. Silver Certificate to boot." Nice. Now that's something actually wortwhile to post.
All of the $1 Hawaii overprint notes were silver certs. The other denominations were Fed Reserve Notes.
From the looks of it, it could have been a short snorter that buddies tore so each might remember serving together. Might be wrong, but a nice thought. I have a few of the Hawaii notes and the North Africa notes. Interesting used of money during war time. Philippines had a similar situation. North Africa issue
Here is a Philippines note. I think I have one of the North African notes with a gold seal. I'll have to dig through my stuff to see. I figured the bill got washed which changed the color of the seal. Z
