I bid on 10 coins in Frank S. Robinson auction a few days ago. i was under bidder on 5 and only won one. i learned a couple things about his auction. Now he's going to be out of town to the end of the month so i'll have o wait on my new coin.
So i'll post it now and when i get it i'll post a new picture. i do have 4 others in the pipe line, plus we have our Boeing club show this weekend and there will be 5 guys with ancients. the first coin of 2015...

That's a nice example of a type I've been looking for. I'm sure your images will be much better.

I looked at that one, but I decided to stay out of the auctions this month. Congratulations on picking up a very nice piece. Ya gotta love that owl.

Nice, always good to get an owl. I own none.

I stay away from franks auctions only because many go for more then I would be willing to pay. I find most of my bargains on ebay.

I do get some stuff from his fixed prices though.

I have more mystery since the prices realized on a lot shows my bid as winning but not reduced so I don't know if I was first or second to bid that amount and win or lose. Frank was once my main source of coins but lately he goes for more mainstream stuff and I am getting weirder.

How do you like his new format? I miss the larger photos but like the two sides together. Very few small dealers made the transition to online auctions. Very few of the guys that sold me coins in 1990 are still in business.

I didn't bid in Frank's auction this time around. Mainly because there is nothing in the coin budget.

I am not a fan of the new picture format though. I much preferred his old set up.

I miss the older group photos; I never minded opening a second tab for the reverses. They were quaint...reminded me of the old coin sale listings I'd get in the mail, like from Colosseum Coin Exchange, with pages of crammed-in coin images collaged together.

But what I REALLY miss is Frank's "no reserve" bidding - which, like the large photos, is now a thing of the past.

i like the new format because i like to see both sides of the at the same time, i get lost with a bunch. his reserve bids are pretty low on most of his coins, also he has "no buyer fee" which you can't find anywhere else. a couple things i don't like, but won't mention here.

I also turned up goose eggs in Frank's last auction. I like the new format, just easier to go through. He occasionally gets some nicer Chinese stuff in which I go for.

Well after a long wait my new owl showed up.took new pictures not sure if there any better.
One thing i noticed is much smaller than i thought. Reduced drachm/ Siglos must be why. size 15mm x 3.80g. i do like it very much, the owl coins are my favorite. it is much nicer in hand...:)

The two pictures were taken at the same time, under the same light, not sure why the obverse is brighter, they both look like the reverse.:)
