I didn't even need to ask Doug about this one! http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCARCE-1873-U-S-SEATED-LIBERTY-DOLLAR-/131402219328 Edit: look at the reverse... eagle's left wing...right-hand side of the coin...
Since I don't collect any of the SL issues and therefore not familiar with their appearance it would be helpful if you'd point out the keys to your diagnosis. I DO note that the surfaces appear "rough", even the devices.
I had a local guy once who had a seated dollar for sale (he runs a pawn and coin shop), i held that thing for half an hour looking it over and even came back with more knowledge one day to make sure I didnt get burned. Turns out it was a fake. It was supposed to have the motto for that year and didnt. I was so happy I didnt purchase that coin. His reaction was funny when I told him it was fake. He threw it over his shoulder onto the floor. I went back in several months later. Right back in his case. SMH.
Yeah, maybe not that easy to spot, but once you see it... ;-) Since the seller is somewhat near me, I sent them a nice message instead of directly reporting them to eBay.
I did both. I emailed them letting them know as it seemed unintentional, and reported it just in case they decide to take the low road and see what happens. Someone was already a bidiot with the initial bid. Assuming they werent bidding to protect other buyers
