So I want to get into Sutlery - tokens, scrip, notes. Don't know much about them except they're expensive.

For my upcoming birthday my awesome wife ordered me a copy of Sutler Paper Money by Kenneth Keller. I actually found it for a very good price, $59 - most editions were over $100 and saw a couple priced over $200. I'm excited it's coming and I'm interested to get into it.

For the next book I want Civil War Sutler Tokens & Cardboard Scrip by David E. Schenkman, 2nd edition. It looks really nice - full color and completely updated.

They both look like pretty solid references. Anyone have any opinions on these or any other resources I should consider?

Schenkman's 1st edition is well worth having Jack. I wasn't aware he had put out an updated version. I used to have a nice collection of Sutlers when I collected CWT's, but no more. And your right about the cost...getting very expensive!

Good luck with them jack. I'll probably give Sutlers a shot some day. Seems like a natural extention from either CWTs or military tokens.

It's funny, everytime I think of them I picture that poor Sutler with the white jacket in Jose Wales. :p

It's been a while since I've seen that movie and it didn't even cross my mind. I'll have to watch it again!

Yeah I might dig mine out and watch it tonight. It's classic Clint.
