I have just purchased the Sears book on Byzantine coinage.....I hope it will enable me to try and ID my cup coins which I have cleaned and which I spoke of many moons ago. This is one from the group of several hundred....I know that many of these coins are called Bulgarian imitative...I hope to be able to tell them apart and hope all my coins are not BI's. If they are BI's, then does this mean they have no value? I know these coins fetch a few pounds each in this grade if authentic, but as Bulgarian copies.....?? anyhow heres the coin.. its 3.4g and 24mm
Hello YOC, I am from Bulgaria, and very well know this coin! This is a very rare coin of Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Shishman! Resemble Byzantine coin, but it is Byzantine. Here in Bulgaria we call them shells because they are shaped like a spoon. Only to ask that I did not understand how and diameter? And another thing vazhno.V Bulgaria these coins are quite expensive !!!
Try this link YOC. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=48951.0;wap2. I think your coin looks like an authentic Manuel Comnenus.
I could make no sense of the link whatsoever, but thanks. It seems he knows what he is talking about, but translation is an issue.....
