Just out of curiosity, what's the oldest full mint red copper coin you've ever seen? In hand, I've only seen some early Indian Head Cents, but I've seen pictures of a 1799 British halfpenny that was so red and so well-struck, had it not been in an NGC slab, I would have questioned its authenticity. Anybody else?
I've handled an 1844 proof large cent that looked like you could light a cigar off of. It was just spectacular. I found this image that I believe is it. It looked even brighter in-hand.
There are no pennies yet in this thread. Just one half penny and a cent. Sorry, nothing personal, just a weird pet peeve of mine.
world coins accepted ? Germany -Baden 1871 red 1 kreuzer.... been in a bank vault for 40 years. great shape and grade I bought off Ebay:
Here's a couple of coppers I have, only one is a coin though. A 1797 British two pence coin and an old odd fellers token from 1923. The twopence has an unmixed alloy error or maybe not but something isn't right, still one of my favorite foreign coins. Can you imagine being around England in 1797 and carrying them around in your pockets? Just think if you needed 10 to buy a coin book or candy bar. Dang!
I see that the coin the OP posted is being asked $1,500 for, I was expecting a little more from it. http://hcraig.com/store/index.php?cPath=637
There is a 1793 SP68RD on the upper right, but from the photo, I am not so sure it's a real RED. PCGS might have missed this one, or perhaps it's darkened in the slab.
Most of the coins in this thread aren't anywhere close to red. I don't own one, but many of the British East India Company coins from the early 1800s are out there in mint state full red. If you want an old reasonably priced one, that is.
