Looks like an XF, maybe low AU, reverse of 38.

I was thinking XF 45 to AU 50, still nice...along with the 50 D, was this an album you bought? Any more of the beauties in it.

I'm thinkin 53 or 55.. although pretty wore, steps look to me like Reverse of 40

This was in an album I've had since the late 60's.

    XF/AU. Worth maybe 15 cents.

Really? I'll buy every single XF/AU 1939-D you have, for 15 cents each!
This is the key date for Jefferson nickels.

    XF45 or AU50. Definitely reverse of '38.

That's a nice coin furham. The coin still has quite a bit of detail. The pillars and stairs have taken on a little wear. But, overall that is a fine example.

I think there is too much wear on the ends (key indicator) and throughout (cannot tell if they are wavy or not) to tell which reverse it is.

    Yeah, I guess.
But a circulated example with unattractive toning isn't worth much, to me.
Not to mention the two black stains on the obverse at 12 and 6 and the black stain covering the S in STATES on the reverse.
