Video from cnn http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/06/us/feat-paul-revere-sam-adams-boston-time-capsule/index.html So far this is the only pic I can find http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...dest-opened/sGPawnxgHqoUnufy9I4PCJ/story.html Just cool!
Environmental damage, not gradable, not collectible. Since they aren't in a PCGS or NGC slab, nobody should have any interest in them.
Absolutely awesome! Is there a list of the coins that were in there? The only one I saw was the pine tree shilling of which they estimate the value to be $75,000. Do you guys think these will eventually be sold or put into a private museum? I could see the entire thing finding its way to the Smithsonian.
Yea that part bums me out, but honestly I think is a cool thing to do. I wonder what will get re-buried with it...I think they should put a George Washington Qurter, a 1 dollar bill for the portrait of George on it of course, and the George Washington gold dollar coin, to go with the George Washington Medal that was in there... at least.
Actually one person said they would re-bury the box back into the foundation. I really doubt that's gonna happen, his diatribe is below. Besides, what kind of authority does the Secretary of State have anyways, were talking about Paul Revere and Samuel Adams!! What sense does it make to re-bury a time capsule? Just sayin' Galvin is talking out the side his neck! He's outta his mind! --------------------------------------------------- Massachusetts state Secretary William Galvin said he expects the items will be on display at the museum for a period of time, but that eventually they will again be returned to the foundation to be discovered by a future generation of Bay State residents.
According to this report I found online, the coins were as follows: Half Cent One Cent Half Dime Ten Cent Twenty Five Cent Pine Tree Shilling A copper Medal showing G Washington Funny thing is, what is not listed in the article is something the gentleman says while the coins are coming out. He says "Oh.. A half dollar."... yet there is no wording of such. Here is the site with the video: http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/06/us/feat-paul-revere-sam-adams-boston-time-capsule/
This was kind of a downer: "It's not the first time the box has been uncovered. In 1855, during some other repairs, the time capsule was removed and its contents cleaned, only to be put back in the cornerstone for almost 160 years" Cleaned by who and with what? They had a chance to be completely untouched originals and then some yahoo in 1855 "fixed them" up a bit for us to enjoy. As if it really mattered to do so. I think they should be put in a museum at this point to be enjoyed. This was how a time capsule was supposed to work. I say enjoy it. Why put it back and forget about it when we have video now to know exactly what's in it anyway?
I heard the broadcast on WAMC, pretty awesome. But they are going to bury it again with some new stuff. Anyone got a pick and know what brick it was??
Turkey sandwiches I can do but all I have is my 4 cylinder Colorado to get away in. We're in trouble already.
@Clutchy - I've always volunteered to be the get away driver, that way if the other guy gets caught there's no use in stickin' around ....VROOM! Of course, now that I've said that out loud, you may have lost @tommyc03 as a partner, his get away vehicle, and sadly, your turkey and cheddar samich Sorry
