$20 in pennies. Filled 6 Wheat slots in my book I needed.

$30 in Nickels. Filled 3 slots in my pre-1960 book. I can't find a Buffalo in a roll anymore to save my life. A few weeks ago when I was in Florida I had a perfect 1937 Buffalo in my change at a gas station. It was so nice I almost didn't notice it because it blended right in with the new change. If I hadn't been near death's door from a hangover I would have walked back inside to see if the cashier had anything else in their drawer, but not even the prospect of a good coin score could keep me from 10 Aspirin and a day in bed ASAP.

I head to Florida at the end of this month. I may do a bank drive one morning while I am there. I figure with all the octogenarians down there, some good old coins must end up in bank teller drawers fairly regularly.

    Any Florida hunters in here?

Awesome finds, you can check the Canadian one for silver by using a magnet. If it sticks, then it is not silver.

I search cents. I found 5 2009D 1DO-001 DDO's in the last 3 weeks. I looked through a bunch of cents $20.00? my daughter in law gave me for Xmas, plus about 20 rolls I got from the bank.

    Last year I found 1 1989D 1D0 002, and one 1970s WDDO 005 (my best find ever)

It doesn't stick and it's the correct weight for a silver 68. Problem is, both the 50% and 80% weigh the same. Not sure how to tell the difference there.

@furryfrog02, I did a search and supposedly you can try acoustic and/or specific gravity tests. Sounds like too much work, but hey, if you have some free time it sounds like fun:

"There is some guy on youtube who developed a simple test to distinguish canadian 1967 50% and 80% silver coins using a microphone and some freeware audio software (Audacity) to examine the sound frequencies produced when you bang the coin. The signatures for 50% and 80% silver coins are completely different and they are easy to tell apart.

Thanks Dougmeister :) I am well acquainted with Audacity :) I don't have a microphone at home to test it though.

There are also apps (I use an Android phone; don't know if available for iPhone) for that too called "Spectrum Analyze", "Spectrum Analyzer" and one made specifically for coins & rounds called "Bullion Test". I prefer the first one mentioned, which works great if you know what frequency you are looking for (and it's free). It will show the frequency and its harmonics as well. It does a peak (max hold) function which takes a snapshot of the peak frequencies. It's pretty cool for electrical engineering nerds like me.

1967 was the last year for 80%, 1968 they went to 50%, and then by the end of the year, they which it again to nickel.
