Nice West Allis note! Out of curiosity, did you get that from Valley Coin in MN? They had a $20 West Allis I have had my eye on. (My in-laws live there).

I have been buying a few world notes lately and here's a replacement note from Cambodia that has a nice design.
Brown. Front: Naga, mythical snake; King Norodom Sihanouk. Back: Koh Ker ruins; sculpture of baby elephant. Solid security thread. Watermark: Lotus flower pattern. Printer: Unknown. 155 x 72 mm.

My focus at the moment is banknotes from southeast asia and oceania. I like the exotic designs on the Fiji notes up until about 10 years ago. The colors are also pleasing to the eyes. Here's a couple recent purchases with a younger QEII from the late 80s early 90s.
    Fiji $20 1988 P88 Unc
    Fiji $10 1992 P94 Unc

The latest addition to my Serial #12 Collection.

The low grade of 62 is because of the terrible margins, and the missing "PPQ" designation is because of the little spot on the left side of the upper margin. It's tough, and sometimes expensive to find serial #12 notes when they're modern......it gets even tougher when they're Silver Certificates.

Congrats Steve - that's a hard find and a great addition! Wish I could find a 656 SC note at a decent price!

I bought this through a Heritage Auction recently. What grade do you think yours is? I haven't run across one above a VF. I'll be at the F.U.N. show starting tomorrow and will keep an eye out for one. If I can get an AU or XF I'll sell this one. They are far and few between.

I'm on a roll! I just picked up the large size national from this same bank from Heritage also. I'll post a picture when I get back from Orlando. I doubt the note will beat me back home anyway. :>)

Awesome addition Steve. What is the driver behind the 12 series? Very cool.

A nice 30 Dinars note from Tunisia. I like odd denominations.

I did leave a little Illinois money with Heritage at Orlando. Besides the West Allis note, I was able to pick up a large date back from Milwaukee but lost out on a large plain back from Batavia Illinois. I thought I might see you at the BEP drawings for the prints they were making on site. No luck there. I did get a couple of personally signed bills by Treasurer Rosa Rio. I happened to have a uncirculated $100 bill on me and she signed it as well. The others were uncirculated $1 bills you could buy at her autographing table. Did you ever get to that end of the hall? We could have been standing next to one another and not even known it. I'll post pictures once I get the photographs taken.

We could very well have been standing next to each other. I was at five of the BEP drawings and I also got a $1 bill signed by Rosie Rios. It was interesting they were using the 888 notes -- best dollar souvenir of the entire show! One curious observation -- you'll notice her autograph looks significantly different than the printed signature on the note. Of course, I was at the end of a long line and she was probably pretty tired of signing these.

My latest, and first addition of 2015. I've wanted a $500 note for some time now and just couldn't afford an uncirculated example......this one however has very nice eye appeal and original paper qualities.

Haven't posted here in a while as I haven't pickup anything. Last show I did buy a few old, cheap notes.

This one just blows me away that it can be had for less than $5. 1793 French Revolutionary "Assignat" note. These were printed in an attempt to both replace the hoarded "specie" coin AND halt inflation. Neither task worked well as they started printing more and more. They were theoretically backed by land taken from the Church. Around the time of printing, 20 Sols equaled 1 Livre, so in theory these notes were worth about 2.5 Livre. Just two years later the Republic replaced the Livre with the Franc at the rate of 1 Franc to 1 and 1/80 Livre (weird, huh?). So...

    1793_france_50solsnote_obv_small.jpg 1793_france_50solsnote_rev_small.jpg

Printed on 1 side only with watermarks and embossed stamps that are barely visible. Really interesting are the legends on the sides that say in French basically that counterfeiters are subject to death and those who turn them in will be rewarded!

Here's a very common Canadian fractional note for 25 Cents. Series is dated 1900 and was used until replaces with a 1920 series.

And finally a WWII note for the Dutch Netherlands: 1943 series 1 Gulden. Note that it was printed by the American Bank Note Company (likely due to that whole "government in exile while occupied by Nazi Germany" thing).

Yes, like MacArthur, I have returned... to post more money. Wish I had a Philippines note in the queue, just to make it extra spicy topic wise, but alas, the next note up is... this Maine obsolete. I like a note with alot of big engraving, and this note has it, honest Injun, just like in the vignette. Should be popping up a note a day until next vacation next month...

Thanks, it's good to be back... speaking of back, let's post a note that has one. Today's new get is an older Brazil note, a 1918 Ten Mil Reis note, done by those talented whippersnappers at ABNCo. This large note appears to feature former Doobie Brothers front man Michael McDonald, with a lovely reverse vignette of the Avenida Beira Mar, whose cleverly named translation is "the street that borders the sea". And the signature on the face isn't graffiti, the notes were signed and made valid on the face this way as they were issued from the bank. So issues notes that went out all have the face signature (note there are no printed sigs on this series...)

Could well be; this Nederlandsch Indië is, by and large, what today is Indonesia. But there also are Dutch notes (e.g. 100 gulden 1943) that say Nederland. They were also produced by American Bank Note Company, and also have that typically American design (hardly any color, value in all four corners, etc.). Those were definitely made by or for the exile government, so I suppose that applies to yours too. And the French assignat is cool!

I picked this one up a few months ago. When I saw the condition, I just had to have it.
