Finally got around to scanning in all my obsolete notes today. It's not a very big collection (I am more into coins) but do appreciate notes especially those with an interesting past, like Confederate currency. If the note has a "reverse" design, I scanned it as well. Up first, an 18xx (any info would be great) Citizens Bank of Louisiana $5 note. Looks amazing in hand. Probably my favorite of my collection.
1856 State Bank - Leavenworth (spelled Levenworth) Indiana $2 note. Rough shape but got it for pretty cheap. Read on HA that no such bank existed. I actually live 15 miles from Leavenworth Indiana and am looking into the banking history of that town. Hopefully I find some kind of info on what was around during that time. Still the note is interesting. <edited>
1866 North Carolina $1 note. This is the last of my obsolete notes. Will be adding more whenever funds allow!
Nice little collection -- thanks for sharing! The counterfeit attribution on your State Bank of Leavenworth note surprises me. It has the look of a genuine note, especially with so much circulation wear.
I should be able to get you some info on the history of this bank if you need it. I collect New Jersey obsoletes and have reference books on the series. I'll get back to you tomorrow. BTW, nice collection wgpjr. Bruce
I only see 1 listing on HA for any State Bank Levenworth note. Terms are important, and based on that listing as well as the Wolka catalog number in the listing to call this a contemporary counterfeit would be incorrect ( the HA listing does not call it one either). Based on appearance as well as the account and catalog number, it appears to be a genuine note from a fraudulent bank, not a contemporary counterfeit.
I took it that way. It had been awhile since I read that HA description and I actually meant to say what you said, but for some reason, contemporary counterfeit came out instead. lol It's all good!
