Washington Presidential Dollar Issues

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by dave new to coins, Dec 28, 2014.

  1. Hello. This one is strange. The side, hard to tell from pics, is actually grooved inward, mostly black, hard to read. the obverse is very grainy, not like any of the other ones I viewed, which was quite a few. Error? Environmental?

  5. How would I know its not a clad / plating or some kind of error? I've read what I could find, and I'm not convinced its environmental. Truth is I don't know squat, but I was hoping for a logical answer. I know, people do all kinds of things, sometimes totally illogical. I also know they have a word for illogical statements. Why on God's earth would someone "acid smoke" this and how would it randomly wind up in the hands of a coin roll hunter? If u say 100% PMD I'll accept that, no explanation required. U sure? I've dug through piles of these. Never seen this.

  6. My apologies, I meant, why would someone acid SOAK? A million reasons I suppose, but still, the random chance I'd come across it while looking for mint errors? NOT being recalcitrant, just looking for answers I couldn't easily think of on my own, like, "this cannot be mint damage or error because, if you look at the bla bla bla", whatever. Something other than what I could already think of. From what I've read I find it very difficult to tell by eye with some of these, and I have no sophisticated test methods. TY for a response anyway.
