What happened?

    A week or so ago I posted pics of this coin not under magnification, asking for the opinion of md or pmd. Everyone replied pmd, no question. Today, the coin arrived and after closer inspection, it is my opinion that the damage shows the earmarks of being md. Please look at the pics and weigh in. Thanks!     umm yeah. That's PMD my friend. What makes you have even the slightest thought that it may be mint damage?

    The "craters" look like torch melted area to me also....

    If you click and enlarge the top pic you can see the AME of America stamped curved going into the hole. If it were drilled those letters would not be there.

    I'd put money on it! Someone in maintenance got crazy at work with the oxy-acetylene. The rings in the crater show signs of pooling.

    It may have been used in an old time fuse box that used screw in fuses. Folks would put a cent in the hole and screw the old fuse in on top of it. Not a safe thing to do but it gave you power till you could find a fuse.
