Would be interested to see how/where others store their every-day pocket change. Here is mine (pennies go in the mason jar, larger denomination coins go in wooden container).
I am currently using an old stoneware crock jar, similar to this, to hold my 'change' until I spend it. It's not to save up $$ for keeping, but rather just to hold the coins I've gone through already and know they are 'safe' to spend. That way I don't lose track of what I am keeping and what I'm not if I get distracted at my desk or with coins found around the home. I like it because it's a good enough size and its one I like. I have used this jar to store kitchen utensils before and may do that again in the future... who knows? But for now, this is working for me.
Around 100 pounds of coppers pennies lol! Maybe more. The pile coins in the photo is not a 1 or 2 penny high pile, the bucket/container thing it is in is almost full. It is kind of hard explaining the giant bin of pennies to visitors if they want to go down to the basement lol, my family always saves their copper pennies now! I officially think that I'm a hoarder lol. Other coins such as zincolns or other denomination coin go in smaller containers, I am against coin counting machines, they take a percentage, it is so simple just to roll them up and take them to the bank, when I'm at the bank I have another excuse to ask if they have silver lol. Last time I dumped coins at the bank I had a huge grand total of $10, I think I'm rich!
I had a few gallons of copper cents but lost interest and cashed them in. Who knows when it will be legal to melt them for their copper and not to mention how tedious it would be having them melted (each would have to be checked to ensure that they are the right date-range).
Box got full again so I grabbed the soap dish outta the bathroom full of basically crap change copper cents get saved for the days scrap higher quarters get used for playing pool
