I found the auction he was talking about... That is one specific title lol, sadly it was wrong, it's not 90% but 75% http://www.ebay.com/itm/1863-III-Cent-Piece-Silver-CIVIL-WAR-ERA-great-condition-90-estate-lot-no-junk/321622456921?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20140602152332&meid=29b3a881476045589bd2842474f589d1&pid=100011&prg=20140602152332&rk=1&rkt=10&sd=321569465827 I think that the coin is worth around $500, I would bid at the price it is at.
Coin is real but looks like somdamage at the lower part of obverse possibly slightly bent too as so many are. More then enough I'd say
Yes it is, or would be. When the Trime was first introduced in 1851 it was 750 fine, but in 1854 they increased the fineness to 900 fine. In the case of this one though it is a counterfeit (date is all wrong) and probably not silver.
another 1863 that he sold: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1863-III-Ce...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 check out the date, shape, etc. Also, not genuine
sold for >500 dollars. shame. most likely a Chinese forgery, has that grainy, sort of burnt toast look to it.
